MFSC has a New Logo
At the August 2002 meeting, the MFSC Board of Directors voted to
adopt a new logo. Thanks to Sara Holwerda
for designing our new look!
Please attend 8/26 City Council
Meeting!
As everyone is now well aware, positive
steps continue to be made to finalize plans to construct a new
three-sheet ice arena in the City of Midland. Fast Ice, Inc.,
representing the major ice rental user groups, has been working
diligently with the City of Midland on this project. Recently,
City staff provided the Midland City Council with a report summarizing
the project status, including proposals for funding this 11 Million
dollar project. In order for the project to be approved by the
City Council, a public hearing must first be held for City residents to
express opinions about the proposed construction of this new arena.
To show community support for this project we ask you to attend the
Public Hearing at the City Building on August 26th at 7 PM.
With the project reaching this critical stage, now is the time when you
can make a difference by attending this public hearing and showing your
support. Your presence at this meeting will make a tremendous
difference to the outcome of this project. Parents and club
members alike! If you own a club jacket please wear it.
See you on August 26th at 7 p.m.!
Thank You,
Jon Evans

MFSC Board of Director Changes
Tammy Sutton
has been named Vice President of the MFSC Board of
Directors, replacing Derrick LaFramboise who resigned due to a job
relocation. Cary Dardas has been named to fill the 10
months remaining in Derrick's board position.
MFSC Says Good Bye to the LaFramboise Family
Derrick, Diana, Elizabeth & Victoria LaFramboise will be leaving
MFSC and relocating to Auburn Hills.
Many thanks to Derrick for his efforts on behalf of the MFSC
Board of Directors and the Pro Committee.
Many thanks to Diana for her tireless efforts on the 2001& 2002
Annual Banquets (a huge success!) and her contributions as Ice Show
Costume Coordinator and SWU Hall Monitor.

We wish the LaFramboise family all the best as they relocate to Auburn
Hills!! |
JUNE 2002 |

MFSC Ice Restored
Thanks to the efforts of arena staff and service company personnel, the
ice has been restored. Summer School Skating will resume Thursday,
6/27 as scheduled.
Compressor Failure Cancels MFSC Ice Time
Due to weekend storms, the rink is experiencing compressor problems.
There will be NO ICE for at least June 24 - 26. We will be
offering evening off-ice classes as follows. Please feel free to
use your make-ups if you are not registered for regular classes or for
the extra classes. Cheryl Partlo will record absences as "storm
related misses". If you are unable to make up this time during the
regular summer session, the storm related missed time will be carried
over as make-up ice for the early fall session. PLEASE - check
your email daily for updates.
Evening Off-Ice:
Monday 6:30-7:10 Jazz
Monday 7:20-8:00 Conditioning (added class)
Tuesday 6:30-7:10 Ballet
Tuesday 7:20-8:00 Conditioning (added class)
Wednesday 6:30-7:10 Yoga
Wednesday 7:20-8:00 Jump (added class)
The good news is that all the repairs to the cooling system are complete
and they are in the process of building the ice up to "skate-able"
levels. The current high daytime temperatures are providing quite
a challenge. However, the arena staff and service company have
been working almost around the clock to get things up and running again.

Fast Ice Fundraising
It's time to get on board for fundraising planning for the new arena!
It is with great pleasure that we announce Doug and Ann Ward as
co-chairs for the Fast Ice Fundraising Committee. We are looking
forward not only to raise money for the arena, but also to generate
publicity for this new venture and for our programs throughout the
community. The following is a list of potential events and
activities which are in the works:
Skate-a-thon (September 2002), Community
Donation Campaign (ongoing with several possible activities),
In-Kind Donation Campaign (ongoing
solicitation of materials and services from community businesses), and
Auction Gala (Spring 2003). We would encourage our MFSC members to
be supportive of these efforts as it will benefit our club and advance
our goals. Contact Doug or Ann Ward with any questions or
suggestions. |
