This is a new feature on the MFSC website.  We are privileged to have three judges at MFSC who are eager to share their knowledge and expertise with our skaters and their families.  If you have questions, send an email to MFSC and we will get answers and post them on the website.

Our first question is "What is Dance Expression?"

Many thanks to Ann Ward for taking the time to explain this topic in depth!

MFSC Turning Points Celebrate 25 Years!!

The Midland Figure Skating Club's adult synchronized skating team, the Turning Points, celebrated its 25th anniversary Saturday night with a reunion of present and past members at Northwood University's Griswold Center.

Originally known as the Precision Patriots, the group has had 74 different members between the ages of 25 and 70, and nine coaches.  The skaters have taken part in more than 45 competitions and have won six gold medals, 14 silver medals and 12 bronze medals.

Because the Turning Points compete in the Masters division, 75 percent of the team must be over 35 years of age.

Three members - Carole Steffens, Ann Ward and Hallie Wilson - have been with the team since its inception.

Wilson was expecting at least 38 members at the reunion, coming from places such as Pennsylvania and Texas.

REGISTER NOW FOR THE 2004 ICE SHOW
This season will end in the biggest of finales!  The Ice Show Committee is very excited to announce that plans are underway to present Celebrate Skating to our families and our community on Saturday, March 20.  For those who are new to our club, MFSC organizes a top notch ice show every two years.  This is the best way to show your families and our community what you and your friends at MFSC can do.  This year's show has the added bonus of being presented at a time when Midland skating is in the news, and Midland is preparing to build a new arena.  It is more important than ever to raise community awareness of what happens every day at the Midland Civic Arena.  This year's production will showcase all different levels of figure skating as well as introduce hockey and speed skating. The Show Committee and Pros are hard at work planning the 2004 Ice Show.

Registration deadline for Club skaters is October 12, 2003.  Contact Carrie Schaller  if you missed the registration deadline.

If you have any questions, please ask a member of the Show Committee:  Becky Evans, Jon Evans, Eline Morabito, Cheryl Partlo, Carrie Schaller - and of course our Club Pros: Jessica Gullan, Kris Hallett, Nicki Hayes, Stephanie Purdy, Derek Schmidt, Liza Stekolnikova

AUGUST 2003
MFSC Skaters Compete at Collegiate Nationals

Congratulations to MFSC's Sara Holwerda - 2003 U.S. Collegiate Nationals Junior Champion!!

"The only skater in the top six (Junior Ladies) not to change placement was Delta College’s Sara Holwerda, who went home junior ladies champion. Skating a fun program to music by the Doors, Holwerda didn’t complete her planned triple Salchow but did a nice double Axel and completed every other double jump. Her music leant itself to an interesting footwork pattern, and she kept good speed throughout the program.

"The Doors is cool music, and I have fun skating my free program," Holwerda said."

See the USFSA website for full coverage of the 2003 Collegiate Nationals

Congratulations to MFSC Pro Jessica Gullan for a great skate in the 2003 U.S. Collegiate Nationals, Senior Ladies division.
