The Midland Area High School Figure Skating Team recently opened their fifth competition season. The Michigan High School Skating conference is made up of 60 schools throughout the state of Michigan and is divided into districts. The team competes in District 5 and trains at the Midland Figure Skating Club. The team competed in Chelsea, MI on December 15, finishing in first place.

Midland HS: Catherine Cieslinski and Kirsten Warner

Mt. Pleasant HS: Kathryn Kowalczyk and Sara Kowalczyk

The Midland Figure Skating Club won the community organization award for a float with a tree in the middle hung
with rental skates. The club, with a number of its young skaters walking, was back after several years away from
the parade, said its president, Duane Boswell.

The Midland Area High School Skating Team finished their regular competition season at a competition held in Kalamazoo and qualified to compete at the Michigan High School Skating Team Championship competition being held March 15^th in Novi.  The top three teams in point standings advance to the state championships after the regular season of competition. The Midland team is split into two teams:  A and B both of which are advancing to States.

A Team - finished the regular season with a second place overall finish out of nine teams.
B Team - skated to a third place finish overall out of eight teams.
