MFSC Skaters to compete at Eastern and Upper Great Lakes Regionals

Five skaters from the Midland Figure Skating Club will compete in United States Figure Skating Regional competition during the month of October.  The Regional Championships are the first step in qualifying for National competition.  Midland skaters competing in the qualifying divisions at Regionals will have the opportunity to vie for berths on the Junior National team.  These skaters include Mollie Boswell of Freeland and Lauren Shuff of West Branch, who will travel to Carmel, Indiana for the Eastern Great Lakes Regional Championships October 16th-20th.  Boswell, 12, will compete in the Juvenile girls division.  This will be her second appearance at a Regional event; she was previously 5th in the Pre-Juvenile girls division in 2007.  Shuff, 16, will compete in the Intermediate ladies division.  This will be her fourth appearance at the EGL Regional Championships.  In 2006, she placed fourth in the Open Juvenile division.

Competing in the non-qualifying divisions at the EGL Regional Championships are Sophia Horny, 12, of Midland and Sarah Miller, 11, of Freeland.  Both skaters will be making their first appearance in regional competition and will be skating in the Preliminary girls division.  .

Another Midland skater, Catie Kramer, will be competing at the Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on October 23rd-27th.  Kramer, 15, will also be appearing in her first Regional competition.

In early 2009, the Midland Figure Skating Club established a partnership with the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  DSC is home to current National Champions Alissa Czisny and Jeremy Abbott.  Midland's Regional team has leveraged this relationship in preparing for the event, splitting their training time between the Midland Civic Arena and DSC.
