STARS Learn to
Skate |
|
The fundamentals of
ALL
ice skating sports. Designed for K-12 students and Adults, the six levels of this program introduce the
fundamental moves – forward skating, backward skating, stops,
edges, crossovers, turns, and mohawks. Upon completion of the
6 levels, skaters will have the basic knowledge of the sport
enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating
such as Free Skating (jumps, spins, footwork) and
Moves-in-the-Field (patterns of turns, edges and power stroking) |
|
SnowPlow Sam |
|
Specifically designed for
children, ages 4 & 5, to become comfortable on the ice, while
developing preliminary coordination and strength necessary to
maneuver on the ice. This course develops balance, body movement
and working with others. Children are encouraged to play and
progress at their own level. Helmets are mandatory for all
SnowPlow Sam skaters. |
|
Hockey Learn to
Skate |
|
The Hockey curriculum is designed to
teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. In 4 badge levels,
skaters will learn to maneuver faster and be more agile on the
ice. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck as
proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels.
Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be successful
in game situations. Prerequisite: SnowPlow Sam or coach
approval |
|
Off-Ice
Training/Conditioning |
|
An off-ice training/conditioning
class for STARS Learn to Skate skaters - consisting of 30
minute group lessons following on-ice group lessons. This
class id designed to help skaters develop strength, balance and
flexibility. Techniques used include light conditioning,
balance, basic jumping skills and elementary yoga. |
|
Junior
Club |
Bronze->Gold
STARS skaters are invited to a new session called Junior Club.
We will spend one hour on the ice: 10 minutes of Stroking, 30 minutes of Practice or Private Lessons, and 20 minutes as a group in a “Challenge.”
Each week a new element (for example - a lunge) will be drawn. That element will be used for a “challenge” the next week. It is all for fun. We have been trialing the challenge concept, and those attending are having a blast!
MFSC Membership is not required for this session. (download
