There are many opportunities for adults in figure skating; both for those who skated as children and those who are new to skating as adults.  The starting place for new adults is the Adult track of the Basic Skills program.  Beyond the basics, there are opportunities for testing, competing, show skating and officiating.

The age categories for Adult competitive skating are as follows:

  • Group I: 21-30 years
  • Group II: 31-40 years
  • Group III: 41-50 years
  • Group IV: 51-60 years
  • Group V: 61 and older

Sectional competitions are held every March and Adult Nationals are held in April.  In addition, there are adult non-qualifying competitions across the country, including the Deborah Burgoyne North American Adult Invitational held in Wyandotte, Michigan each February.  Categories include singles freestyle, pair skating, ice dance and artistic showcase.
