Singles freestyle involves learning jumps and spins and performing a routine to music. This is the discipline of skating “as seen on tv.” Skaters learn the fundamentals of singles freestyle in the Basic Skills curriculum, and from there proceed through eight test levels of advanced freestyle.
Skaters may test only or may test and compete. There are numerous non-qualifying competitions in the State of Michigan and across the United States each year. Advanced skaters may participate in qualifying competitions, the Senior level of which has the potential of leading to the World Championships and Olympic Games.
