Melanie Black
Resident Coach

A 14-time Adult Nationals/Showcase Champion, Melanie is Master rated in Skating Skills, and has Registered Singles, Group and Choreography ratings, and Power Skating and Hockey 1&2 certifications from the Professional Skaters Association (PSA). 

 

Melanie is an American Ice Theatre Master Choreography Techniques graduate, and a certified personal trainer. Off the ice, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcasting.

 
Melanie is available for private and group lessons. 


Teri Haag
Resident Coach

Teri is the MFSC Skating Director. She skated competitive singles for 10 years.  She also competed solo dance and was a Midwestern Sectional competitor in Synchronized Skating in addition to testing in pair skating. She has coached skaters through their Gold Skating Skills, Singles, Dance and Solo Free Dance tests and has coached Regional through National level competitors as well as a Junior National Champion and the Midland Area High School Skating Team.

 

Teri is an NSCA Certified Personal Trainer and NASM Youth Exercise Specialist and teaches off-ice fitness classes in addition to group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, singles, skating skills, ice dance, edge class, and choreography. 

 

Teri holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design.


Steve Hartsell
Resident Coach

Steve is the 1999 U.S. National Pair Champion and World Team member as well as the 1997 Junior World Pair Champion.  He is a Pro-Motion jump harness expert and former member of US Figure Skating Athlete’s Advisory Committee and US Figure Skating Board of Directors as well as an IJS Technical Specialist.

 

Steve has coached Regional, Sectional, National and International competitors in singles and pairs. He is available for group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, singles, pair skating, hockey, and skating skills. 

 

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics.


Samantha Shriver
Resident Coach

Samantha worked with a personal trainer and skated competitively for 11 years, training in Pennsylvania.  She competed through the Novice Regional level at  South Atlantics and is a gold medalist in skating skills.

 

Samantha is available for group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, singles, choreography, skating skills, and off-ice training.  

 

Samantha was her High School Valedictorian and graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. She is a Solids Processing Technology Expert at The Dow Chemical Company.


Sophia Hovey
Associate Resident Coach

Sophia has 23 years of figure skating experience and has coached since 2020. She has passed her Gold Skating Skills, Pre-Silver Singles and partnered Silver dance tests plus three Pre-Golds. Sophia has experience competing in singles, ice dance, synchronized team and theatrical skating. She has tried out successfully as a pair skater and has skated as a soloist in ice shows for many years.

 

Sophia is available for group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, skating skills, singles, ice dance and choreography. 

 

Off the ice, she is a licensed electrician for a local contracting firm.


Sarah Miller
Associate Resident Coach

Sarah is a triple gold medalist in Skating Skills, Singles and Solo Free Dance. She competed at the Regional level through Senior singles, and was the alternate at the Sectional level in 2015. She is a 3-time regional finalist as well as a high school state medalist in individual and team events and was a high school individual state champion in 2014.

 

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and is attending graduate school pursuing a degree in Athletic Training. She is also a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. While on school breaks, Sarah is available for group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, skating skills, singles, choreography, off-ice jump and stretch classes.


Sydni Nikolai
Associate Resident Coach

Sydni has 16 years of skating experience and has coached since 2019. She is a quadruple gold medalist in Skating Skills, Singles, Solo Dance and Solo Free Dance. Sydni has competed at the qualifying regional level in singles and is a state high school medalist in singles and team as well as a District Champion in team. 

 

While attending Michigan State University, Sydni was President of the MSU Skating Team. She is currently attending graduate school pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and is available on a limited basis during school breaks to teach group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, singles, skating skills, ice dance and choreography. 
 


Kyra Barr
Junior Coach

Kyra has 15 years of skating experience and has coached since 2021. She is a USFS double gold medalist in Skating Skills and Solo Free Dance and has passed three Pre-Gold Solo Dances and Pre-Silver Singles. Kyra is a 3x Eastern Great Lakes Regional competitor and a high school State Champion in team and individual events. Off the ice, Kyra has over 10 years of dance experience across a variety of styles, including ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. 

 

Kyra is available to teach group and private lessons in Learn to Skate, singles, skating skills, ice dance and choreography.
